Game 60: 44-16 - Sunday afternoon: Yankees 18, Cubs 4
The Yankees picked up right where they left off on Saturday night, as Matt Carpenter and Kyle Higashioka each hit two home runs.
The Yankees were trailing 1-0 after the top of the first, as Ian Happ had a solo home run off Jameson Taillon, and they got to Cubs starter Keegan Thompson, who entered the game with a 6-1 record, in the bottom half of the opening inning. Carpenter drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the first run, and then Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Joey Gallo each had two-run doubles to make it 5-1 and that chased Thompson from the game.
In the second, Carpenter had a three-run homer to make it 8-1, and they made it an even 10 in the third when Higashioka led off the inning with his first homer of the season, and Giancarlo Stanton had an RBI double.
1998: 46-14 through 60 games
Game 58: 45-13 - Tuesday, June 9, 1998: Yankees 11, Montreal 1
Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez threw a complete game to earn his second win in as many starts to begin his Yankees career. He allowed just one run on four hits and a walk, with nine strikeouts.
The Yankees got on the board in the second inning when Bernie Williams led off the frame with a solo home run and Tino Martinez hit a two-run shot later on to make it 3-0. Tino got another RBI on a groundout in the third to make it 4-0.
Scott Brosius led off the fourth with a homer, followed by a Luis Sojo double to make it 6-0.
The Yankees blew it open in the sixth when Paul O'Neill got a two-run single, followed by a Bernie Williams RBI double, and Shane Spencer scoring on an error to make it 10-0.

Montreal got one of them back in the bottom of the third when Jose Vidro hit an RBI double off Yankee starter Hideki Irabu.
In the fourth, Jorge Posada had an RBI single, followed by a run scoring on an error on a hit by Irabu to make it 4-1 Yankees.
In the sixth, Scott Brosius got an RBI single, and Martinez got a sacrifice fly in the seventh to make it 6-1.
Irabu went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks, with five strikeouts, to earn the win and improve to 6-1 on the season.
Game 60: 46-14 - June 11, 1998: Montreal Expos 7, Yankees 5
The Yankees jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning of this one, as Scott Brosius and Joe Girardi each had two-run singles against Montreal starter Carl Pavano.
Tino Martinez had a solo shot against Marc Valdes in the sixth to make it 5-0 Yankees.
Montreal rallied against Yankee starter Andy Pettitte in the seventh, starting with an RBI double from Rondell White.
The Yankees turned to Mike Stanton, who gave up a sacrifice fly to Jose Vidro to make it 5-2.
With Jeff Nelson in, Brad Fullmer got a two-run double to cut the Yankees' lead to 5-4, and then Vladimir Guerrero got the big blow against Darren Holmes, when he laced a three-run double, before getting thrown out to third base to end the inning, to make it 7-5 Montreal.
Ugueth Urbina pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 15th save of the season. Urbina went on to close for Boston in 2001 and 2002, Texas, Florida, Detroit, and Philadelphia. He was a member of the Florida Marlins' World Championship team in 2003.
Carl Pavano was also on the 2003 Marlins, and he signed with the Yankees as a free agent ahead of the 2005 season. He had issues staying healthy, and in his four years as a Yankee, he compiled a record of 9-8 with just 26 starts. He went to Cleveland in 2009, and then went to Minnesota during that season, and he stayed with the Twins until 2012. His best season in Minnesota was 2010, when he went 17-11.
