It was a tough Saturday night for the local soccer teams, as New York City Football Club suffered a 2-1 loss in Columbus, while the Red Bulls were shutout in Montreal, 3-0.
The Red Bulls clinched a playoff spot by virtue of New England tying Portland. They remain in first place with 55 points and a record of 17-4-7, but second-place Atlanta United (54 points, 16-6-4) plays at DC United on Sunday night.

Yankees Debut New-Look Offense, But Old Reliable Pitching Gets Them A Win

The Yankees debuted their new-look lineup, with Andrew McCutchen leading off and the return of catcher Gary Sanchez, but it was the pitching of Masahiro Tanaka that led them a 2-1 win on Saturday evening against the Detroit Tigers at Yankee Stadium.

"Surreal" is how Andrew McCutchen described his feelings when he learned he would be joining the Yankees at his introductory press conference on Saturday afternoon.
McCutchen was traded from the San Francisco Giants to the Yankees on Friday morning as an extra outfielder for the stretch run, insurance for Aaron Judge continuing to miss significant time with his wrist injury.

Late Friday night, the Yankees acquired SS Adeiny Hechavarria and cash considerations from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Hechavarria, 29, is batting .254 (66-for-260) with 4 home runs and 29 RBI, along with 31 runs and 11 doubles, in 76 combined games with the Tampa Bay Rays (61G) and Pittsburgh (15G) this season.
MLB Teams Go Gold On September 1st To Promote Fight Against Childhood Cancer

For the third straight year, Major League Baseball teams will dedicate a special "Childhood Cancer Awareness Day" at ballparks on Saturday, September 1, including at Yankee Stadium, where the Yankees will host the Detroit Tigers.
This is in recognition of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
