Ponds Will Return For Junior Season At St. John's

Shamorie Ponds has announced that he will return to St. John’s for his junior season in 2018-19 after previously declaring for the NBA Draft and working out for teams over the past month.

Ponds is coming off a breakthrough season, in which he was the leading scorer in the Big East last year at 21.6 points per game and was a First Team All-Big East selection in 2017-18.

The Red Bulls, Newark Public Schools, and the U.S. Soccer Foundation unveiled a new initiative yesterday aimed at dramatically increasing access to safe places to play and evidence-based soccer programs at Newark Public Schools.

Over the next five years, the partners will build 20 mini-soccer courts, called mini-pitches, and engage more than 2,500 Newark students in Soccer for Success, the U.S. Soccer Foundation's after-school soccer program that delivers positive health and youth development outcomes.

The Yankees have surged to the top of the standings thanks in part to the performance of phenoms like Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar.

Their success this season also depends on their longest-tenured player,  lead-off hitter Brett Gardner.

On Tuesday night against Houston, Gardner went 4-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI.

2019 CBS Sports Classic In Las Vegas

T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will host the 2019 CBS Sports Classic, the annual event that features Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio State and UCLA in a college hoops doubleheader.

The sixth edition of the CBS Sports Classic will be staged Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019 with North Carolina facing UCLA and Kentucky taking on Ohio State. Home to the 2016 event, this will be the second time T-Mobile Arena has hosted the CBS Sports Classic.

The Red Bulls and Philadelphia Union played to a scoreless draw Saturday night at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls are now unbeaten in their last five games (4-0-1), and their record is now 7-1-3, with 22 points. They now have a home record of 4-1-1 this year at Red Bull Arena.

Red Bulls To Take On NYCFC In US Open Cup

The Red Bulls will take on New York City Football Club in the fourth round of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Red Bull Arena.

This is the second time they will play this season, as the Red Bulls beat NYCFC 4-0 on May 5 in MLS play.

The Houston Dynamo beat New York City Football Club, 3-1, on Friday night.

NYCFC drops to 7-3-3 on the season, with 24 points, tied for second 
place in the Eastern Conference at the moment.

The Yankees announced the roster of former players who will be on hand at the 72nd annual Old-Timers’ Day, which will be held on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17, at Yankee Stadium.

This is the 10th Old-Timers’ Day at the current Yankee Stadium.

First-time participants include current Yankees Manager Aaron Boone, Andy Pettitte, Jason Giambi, Nick Swisher, and Dion James.

Red Bulls Honoring Robles' Record Saturday Night

The Red Bulls will honor goalkeeper and captain Luis Robles on Saturday evening prior to the Red Bulls' match against the Philadelphia Union.

FIFA has approved Red Bulls Young Designated Player Alejandro "Kaku" Romero Gamarra's one-time switch to the Paraguayan National Team.

Kaku was named today to Paraguay's camp for an international friendly against Japan on June 12 in Austria.

Kaku, who appeared for his native Argentina as a youth international through the Under-20 World Cup, draws Paraguayan lineage through his parents.

The Red Bulls, in partnership with Prudential Financial, Inc., have signed 12 athletes from Special Olympics New Jersey to two-game contracts.

Prudential Financial is the proud presenting partner of the Red Bulls Special Olympics Unified Team.

The New York Red Bulls Unified Team will be at Red Bull Arena for two matches, starting with a game before the New York Red Bulls - FC Dallas match on June 23 and then a second match before the Red Bulls - D.C. United game on August 26.

Gov. Cuomo Presents Medal For Public Service To WWII Veteran

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo met with WWII veteran Sidney Walton, 99, at the State Capitol and presented him with the Governor's Medal for Public Service on Friday, May 18.

Mr. Walton, a New York native, is currently on a "No Regrets Tour" of the United States that aims to give anyone hoping to meet a WWII veteran the opportunity to do so.

PBS' The Great American Read




The Great American Read launches tonight, Tuesday, May 22, 2018, with a two-hour episode at 8 p.m. on PBS stations, including Channel 13 here in New York, and will introduce viewers to the full list of America’s 100 favorite novels selected through a demographically representative national survey conducted by YouGov.  

It will be hosted by television personality and journalist Meredith Vieira.

The Red Bulls, thanks to two goals from Bradley Wright-Phillips and superb play in net from Ryan Meara, earned a 2-1 win over Atlanta United FC on the road on Sunday night.

Both of Wright-Phillips' goals came in the second half, and this was his 16th career brace and 20th career multi-goal performance.

Villa Makes Most Of His Day As NYCFC Crushes Colorado

New York City Football Club captain David Villa was honored for his 400th career goal before Saturday's game at Yankee Stadium, and he followed that up with two goals to lead them to a 4-0 win over the Colorado Rapids.

Villa's family was on hand for the ceremony, along with NYCFC President Jon Patricof and Sporting Director Claudio Reyna.

Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles has been ruled out of Sunday's match against Atlanta United FC with a knee injury, ending his MLS Iron Man streak of playing 183 straight regular season games.

It will be the first time Robles misses an MLS regular season start since his first appearance for the club in September of 2012.

Red Bull Arena has been selected by Concacaf as a host venue for matches in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, Red Bull Arena and Concacaf announced on Friday.

Red Bull Arena is one of 13 venues selected across 15 metropolitan cities, and the only venue in the New York/New Jersey area.

"It's an honor for Red Bull Arena to be selected as a host venue for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup", Marc de Grandpre, General Manager, New York Red Bulls said on Friday. "We are privileged to welcome world-class talent to the finest soccer stage in all of North America."

New York City Football Club tied Los Angeles FC, 2-2, on the road Sunday night at Banc of California Stadium.

NYCFC is now 6-3-2, 21 points, tied for second place with the Columbus Crew and four points behind Atlanta for the top spot in the East.

In the 12th minute, NYCFC's Anton Tinnerholm took a shot from outside the box that struck LAFC’s Edward Atuesta’s outstretched hand, resulting in a penalty confirmed by Video Assisted Review.

Giancarlo Stanton had a big afternoon to lead the Yankees to a 6-2 win over the Oakland A's on Sunday afternoon at The Stadium.

The Yankees took two of three from Oakland to finish the homestand with a record of 7-2.

The Yankees have now won 19 of their last 22 games, and are now 28-12, tied with Boston for the best record in the American League East and the entire league.

Red Bulls Roll To Win In Colorado

The Red Bulls went on the road and came out with a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.

The Red Bulls have now hit their stride, winners of three straight games and they have improved their record to 6-3-0, with 18 points, in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

The victory was the Red Bulls' first in Colorado since 2007, snapping a 0-5-1 streak in Commerce City.
