St. John’s Athletics, in conjunction with the Peter J. Tobin College of Business and the Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies, announced on Thursday morning the new academic minor entitled Name, Image, and Likeness in Sport.

The St. John’s UNLIMITED program to offer students a core curriculum in NIL, finance, marketing, social media and law.

The Name, Image, and Likeness minor is available to Red Storm student-athletes, as well as the University’s greater undergraduate population.

The minor was initially launched in January 2021 as Sports Leadership & Branding, and has been revamped in part to help advance the St. John’s UNLIMITED program, which is geared toward providing Red Storm student-athletes educational, networking and leadership opportunities to enhance their personal brand and maximize legislation surrounding Name, Image, and Likeness.

A 15-credit minor, Name, Image, and Likeness in Sport offers students courses in personal finance, sports marketing and media, social media in sport, social media content creation, legal aspects of sport management, as well as sports law.

“St. John’s steadfast dedication to crafting an unparalleled blend of academic and athletic excellence stands as a testament to our enduring commitment to student success,” said Director of Athletics Mike Cragg. “Amidst the ever-evolving landscape of collegiate athletics, our UNLIMITED program has not only adapted but has also thrived, earning national acclaim since its inception in 2021.

“As we embark on this next chapter, enriched by new partnerships and the wisdom gained from years of experience, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the academic leaders whose visionary contributions have transformed this dream into reality,” Cragg continued. “Together, we ensure that our students reap the rewards and synergy for years to come.

David Hedlund, Ph.D.,  Chairperson of the Division of Sport Management at St. John’s Collins College of Professional Studies, said, “St. John’s University is committed to educating and preparing our graduates for cutting-edge careers. Now, there are Name, Image, and Likeness-focused jobs that did not exist a few years ago. From the beginning of the NIL era, St. John’s University has been committed to providing educational opportunities found in few other places. Our innovative curriculum in New York City provides our students experiences for a multitude of future careers.”

St. John’s UNLIMITED, as part of the athletic department’s overarching commitment to deliver a well-rounded experience,  helps guarantee that student-athletes have the resources to realize their potential on and off the field of play in one of the greatest cities in the world.

In addition to academic coursework, the St. John’s UNLIMITED program features a department-wide partnership with both Influencer and Opendorse intended to empower Red Storm student-athletes with innovative technologies, education and support services to navigate the developing NIL landscape.

RFK Jr. Files FEC Complaint Against CNN, Biden, Trump

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in Brooklyn on May 1. Photo by Jason Schott.

The campaign of Independent Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. filed a Federal Election Commission (FEC) complaint alleging CNN, President Biden, President Trump, and their campaigns have engaged in flagrant violations of the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA).

The complaint establishes that since CNN is illegally demanding that Kennedy meet different criteria to participate than Presidents Biden and Trump, its debate on June 27 is a large prohibited campaign contribution to Biden and Trump.

According to the complaint, the Parties have engaged in blatant violations of the FECA, as they allege that “CNN colluded with the Biden Committee and the Trump Committee to schedule and did schedule a debate with criteria that were designed to result in the selection of certain pre-chosen participants, namely Biden and Trump, in a clear breach of federal campaign finance law.”

The Biden campaign has been open about demanding that Kennedy be excluded from the debates, and it was reported by the Washington Post that Trump received assurances from CNN that Kennedy would be excluded.

This makes it clear, according to the complaint, that “CNN is making prohibited corporate contributions to both campaigns and the Biden Committee and the Trump Committee have accepted these prohibited corporate contributions.”

To read the full complaint filed by the Kennedy campaign, please click here.

FEC law requires that media broadcasters use “pre-established” and “objective” criteria to determine which candidates are admitted to a debate. Broadcasters like CNN are not permitted to pre-select the candidates who may participate. Debate hosts are also not allowed to “use nomination by a particular political party as the sole objective criterion to determine whether to include a candidate in a debate.”

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. asks the FEC to “find reason to believe that the Parties have violated the Federal Election Campaign Act” and to, among other things, “enjoin the Parties from holding the presidential debate scheduled for June 27, 2024 until the Parties have come into compliance with the Federal Election Campaign Act.”

According to the qualification criteria from CNN, “a candidate’s name must appear on a sufficient number of state ballots to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold to win the presidency” by the qualification deadline of June 20. The candidates must also receive at least 15% in four national polls sponsored by 1 of at least 12 selected pollsters of registered or likely voters.

On Tuesday, the Kennedy campaign announced that New York is now the ninth state that the Kennedy-Shanahan ticket has collected enough signatures for ballot access in, along with New York, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, Idaho, Nebraska, Iowa, and Ohio. It has officially made the ballot in seven states - Utah, Michigan, California, Delaware, Oklahoma, Hawaii, and Texas.

That means the Kennedy-Shanahan campaign has collected the signatures needed for ballot access in 16 states totaling 229 electoral votes - 43 percent of the 538 total electoral votes nationwide.

The real significance of the New York ballot access news is that, as of today, Kennedy is eligible for more electoral votes than both Presidents Biden and Trump combined since they have not yet been officially nominated by their parties and their ballot access is not certified in any state, making them eligible for zero electoral votes. CNN is admitting presidents Biden and Trump to the debate without requiring that they satisfy the electoral vote criteria while insisting Kennedy must satisfy it. That violates the requirement that debate criteria be “pre-established” and “objective.”

The Kennedy campaign has had meetings with CNN, and the broadcaster reiterated its double standard on the electoral criteria, and in a damning revelation , refused to deny that it developed qualifying criteria before determining candidates.

Kennedy said in a statement, By demanding our campaign meet different criteria to participate in the debate than Presidents Biden and Trump, CNN’s debate violates FEC law and is a large prohibited corporate contribution to both the Biden and Trump campaigns.”

Kennedy already has three of the four national polls needed to satisfy CNN’s rules for its upcoming debate in Atlanta, Georgia. Last week, a Marquette Law School Poll of registered voters put RFK Jr. at 17%, and RFK Jr. already had two qualifying polls in April, a CNN poll at 16% and a Quinnipiac poll at 16%.

Kennedy Set To Make November Ballot Here In New York

From Kennedy24.com.

@RobertKennedyJr on X.

Independent Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign announced on Tuesday that it turned in three times the necessary signatures to make the ballot in New York, the state his father represented in the Senate, and where he spent 40 years as an environmental attorney.

On the final day of the petitioning, the campaign turned in 135,519 signatures, a record for a presidential candidate in New York.

Volunteers carried 70 volumes of signatures into the New York State Board of Elections office in Albany.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. posted this statement on X (@RobertKennedyJr): “Even though the state of New York stacked the deck against us, we successfully collected and turned in 135,519 signatures today, three times the required amount to gain ballot access in the Empire State.”

The Kennedy campaign described the process as such in the press release accompanying the news: “New York utilizes the following stringent rules: a byzantine set of rules for the final processed documents; congressional district requirements for signatures that must be proven to be met before submission; requiring manual validation of all signatures; confusing tests of residency, forcing signers to put downtowns as opposed to the postally accepted hamlets; one of the shortest petitioning windows in the nation allowing only six weeks for collection; and one of the highest number of signatures required in the nation.

“In spite of this, the Kennedy campaign has made history in the state that once elected Robert F. Kennedy as their U.S. Senator and where Robert F. Kennedy Jr. began his environmental career by spearheading the project to clean up the Hudson River from corporate polluters. In spite of this, the Kennedy campaign has made history in the state that once elected Robert F. Kennedy as their U.S. Senator and where Robert F. New York is now the ninth state that the Kennedy-Shanahan ticket has now collected enough signatures for ballot access in, along with New York, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, Idaho, Nebraska, Iowa, and Ohio.

This is significant because, in order to make the debate stage with Presidents Biden and Trump in late June, Kennedy will need to have states comprising 270 votes, what you need to win the election.

“Getting ‘Bobby on the Ballot’ in my home state is one of the greatest achievements of my life,” said New York volunteer Tammi Palmeri. “I understand what’s at stake for our country and I’m grateful there’s a candidate I can believe in.”

Kennedy Receives Reform Party Nod; Puts Him On Florida Ballot

Independent Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that he received the Reform Party nomination on Thursday night.

The Reform Party’s national committee met last night and voted to nominate Kennedy, granting him ballot access in Florida, and of nearly equal significance, providing a major fundraising advantage.

Individuals currently can donate a maximum of $6,600 to the campaign. Now, with the Reform Party’s backing, the party can raise an additional $41,300 from individual donors and spend it in coordination with the campaign to support Kennedy.

The contribution limit for a party is more than six times the campaign contribution limit.

Kennedy said in a statement, “Much gratitude to the Reform Party for its nomination offering me ballot access in Florida. I couldn’t resonate more with the Reform Party’s motto, It’s time to put people first.’ I am grateful to accept the nomination, grow the independent movement, and take our shared principles all the way to the White House.”

The Reform Party was founded by Ross Perot supporters in 1996. Perot ran in 1992 and 1996, the most successful third party candidate in United States history until Kennedy launched his independent run in October.

The party’s rules call for it to nominate a presidential candidate, who then selects a vice-presidential candidate.

Kennedy accepted the Reform Party nomination and selected Nicole Shanahan as his running mate.

The Reform Party refiled its Florida state party paperwork this week to run Kennedy as its nominee.

Reform Party Chairman Nick Hensley said in a statement released by the Kennedy campaign, “The driving potential in this marriage is principles. Even though Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Reform Party do not agree on every issue, both the Reform Party and RFK Jr. agree on listening to the opposition, debating facts, and understanding that you can’t discount a solution just because it came from your political rivals. True leaders will listen to those around them, and forge consensus, regardless of political affiliation.”
