MLS Soccer Sunday: Red Bulls Draw In Atlanta; NYCFC Loses At Home

On Sunday, the Red Bulls earned a 3-3 draw on the road against Atlanta United, while New York City Football Club lost a tough one, 2-1, to the Portland Timbers, at Yankee Stadium.

The Red Bulls are now 8-4-7, with 28 points, in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, just one point behind NYCFC, who have 29 points and fell to 7-8-2.

The Mets got redemption on Saturday night as they came back to beat the Phillies, 6-5, on Saturday night at Citi Field.

One night after having the latest in a long line of tough outings, Mets closer Edwin Diaz earned the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning. He opened it by getting Bryce Harper to line one back to him, then got Rhys Hoskins to line out to third base, and after J.T. Realmuto got a single, Jay Bruce struck out to end it.

The Mets had another bullpen meltdown on Friday night, as closer Edwin Diaz and Jeurys Familia combined to give up five runs in the ninth inning as the Mets went on to lose, 7-2, to the Phillies.

If you looked at the schedule before the season and saw that the Mets were hosting the Phillies at Citi Field the final weekend before the All-Star Break, you would think this would be a series between two contenders.
