NYCFC Opening Weekend Starts with 24 Hours Of Matches At Rock Center

New York City Football Club kicked off its second annual 24-Hour Game on Friday afternoon at Rockefeller Center. More than 700 New Yorkers will take part in the pop-up soccer game on the iconic Plaza over 24 consecutive hours of play.


NYCFC Head Coach Domènec Torrent, Sporting Director Claudio Reyna, and First Team players spoke to media, cheered on the amateur players, and participated in the opening ceremony before teams led by Captain Alex Ring (Team Ring) and Maxi Moralez (Team Maxi) kicked off.
Special guests included celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, former World Cup Final referee and current General Manager of the Professional Referee Organization (PRO) Howard Webb, and two-time Emmy Award winning commentator Fernando Fiore, who served as referee for the early 5-on-5 matches.
The event was the start of a weekend that will culminate with NYCFC’s  home opener at Yankee Stadium against D.C. United on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
