St. John's Head Coach Rick Pitino threw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night ahead of the Yankees' 4-0 loss to the Cleveland Guardians.

"I think it's awesome to be here," Pitino said on the field. "Everything about the place is amazing and its history reminds me of coming here in my younger days."

On when he went to Yankees games growing up, Pitino said, "At the old stadium, I was 10 or 11 living in The Bronx off the Grand Concourse. I used to take my two girl cousins. We would catch about eight games a year. One of the third baseman, Clete Boyer, (Tony) Kubek, (Bobby) Richardson, (Moose) Skowron, (Mickey) Mantle, Johnny Blanchard. I have so many great memories. Then going through the (Derek) Jeter and (Jorge) Posada days to now. I think this team has the potential to win it all."

Pitino exchanged jerseys with Yankees Manager Aaron Boone before he took the mound. Maybe he gave Boone some pointers on how you win a championship since Pitino has won two national championships, while Boone is still looking to win his first in his near-decade at the helm.

Pitino was then asked by the media that got to be on hand about his team that probably has a better chance to win it all, and the new roster he has formed, and he said, "I think they are extremely athletic. We improved our shooting, which needed to be addressed. I think we'll be a much better three-point shooting team this year, we just have to match the defense we played last year."
