It was a mixed Saturday night for the area MLS teams on the road, as New York City Football Club was shutout in Vancouver, 2-0, while Red Bull New York played to a spirited draw in Miami.

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS 2, NYCFC 0: This one looked like it was going to be scoreless at halftime, but Vancouver had different ideas, as Matthias Laborda scored in the 45th minute to put them up 1-0.

Laborda scored on a strike from the center of the box on a feed from Sebastian Berhalter.

It stayed that way until deep into the second half, when Brian White headed one home, off a feed from Bruno Caicedo, in the 87th minute to seal the win.

Vancouver is in first place in the Western Conference with a record of 6-0-1, with 18 points, tied with San Jose, who has the same record.

Yohei Takaoka earned the shutout for Vancouver, as he made a pair of saves. NYCFC had twelve shots overall, but only two were on goal.

Even though NYCFC controlled play for 53.2 percent of the game, Vancouver poured in 23 shots, with 10 on goal, as NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese made eight saves.

"The best player tonight from our side was Matt Freese," NYCFC Head Coach Pascal Jansen said afterwards. "He had a few fantastic, brilliant saves and kept us going. It's a very hard thing to swallow once you concede the way you do, because he kept us in the race, especially in the first half. Conceding the one-nil (goal) like we did is something we could have prevented, but his overall performance was very good."

This was Freese's 100th match appearance across all competitions for NYCFC. His eight saves was the second-most saves he had in a match, as he made nine on two occasions in the 2024 season.

This also was a milestone for Jansen, as this was his 50th game at the helm of the club.

RED BULL NEW YORK 2, INTER MIAMI 2: This was the second game for Miami in their new home, the magnificent Nu Stadium, and they are still without a win.

Austin beat them last weekend to spoil its debut, and the Red Bulls came close in this one.

Jorge Ruvalcaba got the Red Bulls on the board first, in the 15th minute, and they nearly took that lead into the half, but Mateo Silvetti scored in the 46th minute to even the score.

Miami then grabbed the lead just 10 minutes into the second half, as German Belterame scored in the 55th.

The Red Bulls had the ball in Miami's territory when Emil Forsberg had a free kick in the 77th minute.

Instead of firing a shot on net, he took the opportunity to pass it to Julian Hall, who did a number on the Miami defender, spinning around before sending it to a trailing Adri Mehmeti, who was coming down the center of the field, and he buried it to tie the game at 2.

Red Bulls goalkeeper Ethan Horvath kept it there to the finish line, as he made a massive save on a Luis Suarez shot in the 81st minute, and turned away a Lionel Messi free kick attempt at the bottom right corner of the net in the 94th minute.

STANDINGS: With these results, NYCFC and the Red Bulls have identical 3-2-2 records, with 11 points, and are in a four-way tie for fourth place.

Inter Miami is narrowly ahead of them with 12 points (3-3-1).
