The St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team just secured a commitment from University of Sourthen California transfer Vincent Iwuchukwu, who will be on the roster for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Iwuchukwu is a 7-foot-1 center who spent two seasons at USC, averaging 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 45 appearances.
Last season, as a sophomore, he played in 31 games, including 11 starts, and averaged 5.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. He recorded double-digits in points five times, and had one double-double. Incredibly, he also averaged 5.4 points in 14 games as a freshman, while notching 2.5 rebounds, as he missed significant time with health issues.
St. John's Head Coach Rick Pitino said in a statement, "After putting Vince Iwuchukwu through a player development session, I knew we had to have him in a Johnnies uniform. Awesome attitude and work ethic. [Vince is] agile, mobile and shoots the heck out of it. Excited to have him [join our program] with so much upside and potential."
Iwuchukwu is a San Antonio native who was rated as the No. 16 overall recruit in the Class of 2022, according to Rivals.com. He led Southern California Academy to a 24-4 overall record and a No. 10 national ranking in his senior season. He played in the 2022 Jordan Brand Classic for Team Air, when he put up 16 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in a 118-109 win over Team Flight.
