The St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team made another addition to their Big East Championship roster, as they signed Imram Suljanovic, a 6-8 wing from Austria, on Tuesday.
Currently playing in Northern Italy for the Pallacanestro Reggiana club in Lega Basket Serie A (LBA), the 18-year old Suljanovic averaged 22.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in the FIBA U-18 EuroBasket B Division in 2024 while playing for Austria.
Suljanovic had the highest single-game scoring effort in the FIBA EuroBasket Tournament in Skopje, North Macedonia, as he poured in 34 points, while shooting 6-13 on three-pointers in a win over Georgia on July 27, 2024. Austria went on to win a silver medal and had a 6-1 record in the tournament.
St. John's Head Coach Rick Pitino said in a statement, "I was watching Imram on film and had to see him in person. I traveled outside Bologna, where he impressed me more with his overall game than what I watched on film. He shoots, passes, handles, and is extremely agile. (Imram has) great potential. We are very excited to have him join the Johnnies."
Suljanovic is the fifth player St. John's has brought in since their season came to a premature end a month ago in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. The additions started with five-star prospect Joson Sanon from Arizona, then Bryce Hopkins, a 2022-23 All-Big East First Team Selection, from Providence; Oziyah Sellers, a guard from Stanford, and on Monday, guard Ian Jackson, a Bronx native who transferred from North Carolina.
