New York City Football Club earned a 1-1 draw at Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night.

This followed NYCFC's 2-1 win at Orlando City on Wednesday, so they have earned four out of a possible six points after this road trip began with a 2-0 loss at Charlotte last Saturday, July 12.

NYCFC is now 10-5-8, with 35 points, eighth place in the MLS Eastern Conference. They are six points behind Leo Messi and Inter Miami (12-5-4, with 41 points) for fifth place. Miami beat the Red Bulls, 5-1, on Saturday night, leaving the Red Bulls (9-6-9, 33 points) in ninth, two points behind NYCFC.

Andres Perea gave NYCFC the early 1-0 lead in this one in the 22th minute, when he buried one from outside the box, and he shot it from a center position to the bottom left corner of the net. Maxi Moralez and Thiago Martins got assists on the goal. Moralez now has six assists on the season, while Martins has two.

This was Perea's first goal of the 2025 MLS regular season, and his fifth overall since joining NYCFC in 2023. He has nine goals overall in his MLS career. It was his second goal contribution of the season, as he has also notched an assist.

It stayed that way deep into the second half, when Kansas City broke through in the 74th minute. Daniel Salloi fired one from the right side of the box toward the lower right central zone of the net to tie the game at 1.

NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese made four saves, and Sporting KC goalkeeper John Pulskamp made three saves. Each team had five shots on goal, while NYCFC had 16 overall and SKC had 11.

NYCFC forward Sebastiano Musu made his MLS debut when he came off the bench in the 77th minute. He signed a Short-Term Agreement for this game from MLS NEXT Pro affiliate New York City FC II.

The four-game road trip concludes on Friday in Dallas, with kickoff at 8:30 p.m. eastern time. NYCFC returns to the area on Tuesday, July 29, when they host Puebla at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, NJ, at 8:00 p.m.
