Red Bulls Roar Back To Take Down Revs

The Red Bulls beat the New England Revolution 5-3 - with all five goals coming in the second half - on Wednesday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

This was the Red Bulls' first win since they beat Atlanta, 2-0, on May 31. Since then, in MLS competition, they had three wins and a pair of losses, including last Saturday's 2-0 loss in Philadelphia.

New England jumped out to a quick early lead when Leo Campana scored in the fifth minute.

The Revs doubled their lead in the 30th minute when Red Bulls right back Kyle Duncan was credited with an own goal.

The Red Bulls broke through early on in the second half when Daniel Edelman scored in the 56th minute. It was his first MLS goal of the season, and third of his career, the first he has scored in over two years, since June 24, 2023 against Atlanta. Defensive midfielder Ronald Donkor earned an assist on the goal.

Then, in the 70th, they tied it when Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting tied it at 2 with his 12th goal of the season. Emil Forsberg and Donkor were credited with assists on the goal.

Just two minutes later, Dennis Gjenjaar sent a pass to Forsberg at the top of the box and he buried a low shot at the bottom of the net to give the Red Bulls a 3-2 lead. It was the captain's eighth goal of the season.

The flurry continued in the 83rd when Choupo-Moting, off a feed from Donkor, buried one in the left corner of the net for his second of the night and 13th of the season, which is tied for fifth in the MLS.

Just five minutes later, Forsberg matched him with his second of the night, on a penalty kick, to make it 5-2 Red Bulls.

Campana got one back for New England in the 93rd minute to make it 5-3. It was his second of the night, basically at the beginning and end of the match. He now has four on the season, so he doubled his goal total in one night.

Donkor notched three assists on the night, after entering the game without one this season. His only other assist came on June 24, 2023, yes, the last time Edelman scored before this one.

The Red Bulls improved to 9-6-8, with 33 points, in eighth place in the MLS Eastern Conference. They are just one point behind NYCFC (10-4-8, 34 points), and five points behind 5th-place Inter Miami, who the Red Bulls host Saturday night at 7:30 PM.

New England fell to 6-9-7, with 25 points, in 11th place in the East.
