NYCFC's Lampard Named MLS Player of the Week

Frank Lampard salutes the fans - USA Today Sports.
New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 26th week of the 2016 MLS season.
Lampard was named MLS Player of the Month for July, a month in which he scored six goals and added one assist
Since making his debut on June 18, Lampard has been on a tear, now ranking in the top 10 in goals in the MLS after scoring all 11 of his tallies in the previous 13 matches.

On a night that NYCFC and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio celebrated Lampard’s 300 career goals, he added to his already impressive tally, scoring two late goals to give NYCFC a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over D.C. United last Thursday night at Yankee Stadium.
The highest scoring midfielder in English Premier League history sparked the comeback with a tremendous goal in the 85th minute off a ball from teammate David Villa. Lampard collected the loose ball in the box and drilled a right-footed shot far post to give New York City FC a 2-1 advantage.
Lampard proceeded to score the game winner only moments later after D.C. United scored a quick equalizer. After making a run into the box, Lampard juked a defender to create enough space for a left-footed shot past diving goalkeeper Bill Hamid, giving NYCFC a stunning 3-2 victory with his goal in extra time.
NYCFC currently sits atop the Eastern Conference standings (44 points, 12-8-8), and is riding a five-game home win streak.
New York City FC next faces the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, September 10.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
