New York City Football Club introduced its newest Designated Player Maxi Moralez on Tuesday.
Maxi spoke to media before an appearance at P.S. 83 / P.S. 182 (BBMS) in East Harlem, a current ‘City in the Community’ site where the Club supports free soccer programming, where he played small-sided games with the students.

The school was the perfect location for Maxi to get to know the local community since the Club already has deep roots and an established presence. This is also a future site where a New York City Soccer Initiative pitch will be built later on this year. Many of the students spoke Spanish like Maxi, making him feel right at home in New York City.
Maxi Moralez said, “I am proud that my new Club planned for my first NYC event to be at a school. It is important for me to get to know and give back to my new community and it is clear that NYCFC is deeply committed to working with the communities of New York.”
Immediately following, Maxi teamed up with NYCFC President Jon Patricof to surprise NYCFC’s ‘Millionth Fan’, Ronald Gardner, with a customized jersey - a symbolic gesture of NYCFC thanking all the fans that helped reach the milestone of surpassing 1 Million Fans at Yankee Stadium.
NYCFC will continue to mark the Millionth Fan milestone at the Club’s Home Opener on Sunday, March 12 at Yankee Stadium, starting with a special pre-game ceremony celebrating NYCFC’s fans from all around the world.
Maxi said of the surprise, “Fans are at the heart of everything NYCFC does as a Club, that’s why we did this surprise today, to thank all of the fans that have helped NYCFC get here. I’ve heard so many great things about NYCFC fans and the fantastic atmosphere they create at Yankee Stadium. I can’t wait to play in front of the crowd at our Home Opener on March 12.”
