MLS Playoffs: Red Bulls Fall In Columbus

In the first leg of the MLS Eastern Conference semifinals, Columbus Crew SC held off the top-seeded Red Bulls, 1-0, on Sunday at MAPFRE Stadium.


After a scoreless first half, Columbus broke through in the 61st minute when Milton Valenzuela sent in a long ball, then Higuain flicked his pass to Gyasi Zardes, who finished to the near post for the eventual game winner.
Kaku and Andreas Ivan saw their first action in the MLS Cup Playoffs as Kaku earned the start and Ivan came in for Alex Muyl in the 70th minute.
Red Bulls goalkeeper and captain Luis Robles tallied one save in his 19th career playoff match.
The Red Bulls held statistical advantages over Columbus in shots, 9-6, shots on target, 3-2, and corners, 8-3.
Down 1-0 on aggregate after Leg 1, the Red Bulls and Columbus will face off at Red Bull Arena in Leg 2 on Sunday, November 11 at 7:30 PM.
The Red Bulls are 5-0-2 following a loss during the 2018 regular season. They are just one of two teams in MLS without back-to-back losses during league play with the other being Atlanta United FC. The Red Bulls ended the regular season on a five-game winning streak.
