The Yankees acquired right-handed pitcher Jake Barrett off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday morning.
Barrett, 27, has made 103 career relief appearances over parts of three seasons with Arizona from 2016-18, going 2-4 with 4 saves and a 4.05 ERA (93.1 innings pitched, 42 earned runs). In seven relief appearances with the Diamondbacks in 2018, he went 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA (7.0IP, 4ER).
Barrett was traded from Arizona to San Francisco on February 5. He was designated for assignment by the Giants on February 22 and claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh on March 1. He was designated for assignment by the Pirates on March 28.
In seven minor league seasons (2012-18), Barrett has posted a 16-10 record with 90 saves, a 3.34 ERA (266.2IP, 99ER) and 278K in 248 relief outings.
The Upland, Calif., native attended Arizona State University and was originally selected by Arizona in the third round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.
To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Ben Heller (right elbow UCL surgery recovery) was transferred to the 60-day I.L. Barrett has been optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
