The Yankees released their roster on Thursday morning ahead of Opening Day against the San Francisco Giants this afternoon at Yankee Stadium, with the first pitch at 1:05 p.m.
There also were a number of transactions the Yankees announced with it, including the signing of rookie phenom and their new starting shortstop, Anthony Volpe, to a Major League contract. He will be wearing a number familiar to many Yankees fans, as it was worn by Brett Gardner for 13 years: number 11.
Franchy Cordero: The first move was that they signed infielder/outfielder Franchy Cordero to a Major League contract and added him to the active roster.
Cordero, 28, has been in the Major Leagues for six seasons, and spent the past two with the Boston Red Sox. In 2022, he hit .219 (53-242) with eight home runs, 29 RBI, 28 walks, 36 runs scored, 17 doubles, and one triple in 84 games.
The Baltimore Orioles signed him to a minor league contract on this past December 5, to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. In 18 spring training games, he had a slash line of .413/.426/.674, with 19 hits in 46 at-bats, with two home runs and nine RBI. He was released by Baltimore on Tuesday, March 28.

Signed INF Anthony Volpe (#11) to a Major League contract and selected him to the active roster.

Placed RHP Luis Gil on the 60-day injured list with eight elbow surgery recovery.

Placed RHP Lou Trivino on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to 3/27) with right biceps tendonitis.

Placed RHP Frankie Montas on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to 3/27) with right shoulder surgery recovery.
