The St. John’s Red Storm came in first in the Big East preseason coaches’ poll.
The defending Big East Regular Season and Tournament champions took seven out of ten possible first-place votes.
It is the first time St. John’s has been so honored since the 1991-92 season, Lou Carnesecca’s last at the helm.
St. John’s came in fifth in the Associated Press Top 25 national poll last week as well.
The Big East coaches also selected Zuby Ejiofor as the Preseason Player of the Year.
Ejiofor is the first St. John’s player to win this honor since Shamorie Ponds in 2018-19. He was named to the All-Big East First Team last season, as well as being honored as the conference’s Most Improved Player.
Bryce Hopkins, who transferred to St. John’s from Providence, was named to the Preseason All-Big East First Team. He earned a spot on it in 2023 while at Providence.
Another new face at St. John’s, Ian Jackson, earned a spot on the Preseason All-Big East Second Team.
Joson Sanon and Dillon Mitchell were named to the Preseason All-Big East Third Team.
