Mets To Host Battle of the Badges On August 19th

The Mets announced on Thursday that the annual Battle of the Badges baseball game between the New York Police and Fire Departments will be held on Wednesday, August 19th.

For the first time ever, it it will be part of a single-admission doubleheader, after the Mets take on the San Diego Padres at 1:10 p.m., so fans can see both games with one ticket.

The Mets will donate $5 from every single and group sale ticket to local FDNY and NYPD charities.

The teams will be comprised of former high school, college, and minor league baseball players who are members of New York's Finest and Bravest. Last year's game was shortened by rain, with the teams tied when play was suspended, and the Fire Dept. has the edge with a 14-12 record in the Battle of the Badges.

Mets Hall of Famer and former Captain David Wright will be the host of the game for the third consecutive year, and he will honor a Police and Fire Department hero before the game.

"The Battle of the Badges game gives each of us an opportunity to say thank you to the unsung heroes of our community," Wright said in the game's announcement. "While most of us would run away from trouble, these brave and heroic men and women run towards it. I can't think of a more worthy cause than to come together to celebrate New York's Finest and Bravest while raising money for their charities. Can't wait to see you there!"
