Love at First Like: A Novel
By Hannah Orenstein
Atria; paperback; $16.99; available August 6

Hannah Orenstein has written a scintillating novel perfect for the social media world we live in, Love at First Like, which is a scintillating read about a jewelry store owner and Instagram influencer who posts a white lie that spirals out of control.

Eliza Roth and her sister Sophie co-own a jewelry shop in Brooklyn. After learning of an ex's engagement, Eliza tries on an over-the-top engagement ring from her shop. She takes a photo of it, and intends to save it to her Instagram drafts, only it is posted to her feed instead.

To her surprise, Eliza's Instagram account, which already had over 100,000 followers, has garnered thousands more. Sales skyrocket, press rolls in, and Eliza learns that her personal life is good for business. With financial pressure building, Eliza is driven to keep this ruse going and find a fake fiance.

Blake, a fellow entrepreneur, seems like the perfect match on paper, and he is promising in person, as well.

When wedding sponsorships are too good to pass up, including a wedding dress, catering, and a chic hotel rooftop venue; Eliza decides that the wedding must go on, even if Blake doesn't yet know that they will be heading down the aisle.

Tensions sizzle as Eliza hides her true intentions from Blake, struggles to ignore her feelings for someone else, and faces a rent hike from the shop's landlord.

Eliza's lies soon begin to unravel, threatening to ruin both her business and her relationship with her sister for good. She faces the choice of staying engaged online or falling in love in real life.
