Mets Minor League Update, Including Brooklyn Cyclones

Let's take a look at how the Mets' Minor League affiliates, including our hometown Brooklyn Cyclones, are performing as their seasons are winding down.


SYRACUSE METS (Triple-A): 68-62, second place, 1.5 games back in International League North division. They had a nine-game winning streak entering Saturday night's action, and that was snapped in a 6-2 loss to Rochester. Infielder Jason Krizan went 1-4 with an RBI and drove in his 58th RBI of the season, tying the second-most he has had in a single season. He is now seven RBI shy of his career high. Krizan is hitting .438 (7-16) in his last six games.

BINGHAMTON RUMBLE PONIES (Double-A): 62-68 overall, 27-39 in the second half, sixth place, 10 1/2 games back in Eastern League Eastern division. They beat New Hampshire, 4-2, on Saturday, just their second win in their last ten games. Catcher Austin Bossart had the game-winning hit, a two-run double in the eighth inning, and he has now driven in three runs in his last two games. The Mets acquired Bossart from Philadelphia in late July for pitcher Jason Vargas.

ST. LUCIE METS (Single-A): 67-62 overall, 35-28 in second half; 2nd place, 8 1/2 games back in Florida State League South division. They are currently on a ten-game losing streak after being shutout by Jupiter on Saturday, 5-0. Infielder Jed Lowrie, on a rehab assignment from the Mets, went 1-2 and played four innings at second base. He is now hitting .300 (3-10) in three games there.

COLUMBIA FIREFLIES (Single-A): 51-76 overall, 27-34 in second half, 5th place, 7.0 games back, South Atlantic League Southern division. They are 4-6 in last ten games, and lost a tough one to Rome, 4-3, on Saturday. Infielder Chase Chambers went 2-3 with 2 RBI, which came on a two-run single to center field in the sixth inning, and a run scored.

BROOKLYN CYCLONES (Short-Season A): 37-29, tied for second place, 1 game back in New York-Penn League's McNamara division. They fell to Connecticut, 6-5, on Saturday night as the Tigers won it on a walk-off. Right-handed pitcher Cory Gaconi had his second straight scoreless appearance, as he threw three innings, allowing three hits and notching three strikeouts. Infielder Jose Peraza hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give the Cyclones the lead at the time.
