Mets Minor League Update, Including Brooklyn Cyclones

Let's take a look at how the Mets' Minor League affiliates, including our hometown Brooklyn Cyclones, are performing as their seasons are winding down. All game information is from Tuesday night.


SYRACUSE METS (Triple-A): 71-63, second place, 1 games back in International League North division. Syracuse lost for just the second time in their last 10 games on Tuesday night, 5-3, to Lehigh Valley. Outfielder Brandon Nimmo, in a rehab assignment on his way back to the Mets, went 0-for-4 with a run scored and a walk; and played nine innings in center field. Nimmo is hitting .250 (6-for-24) with two doubles, three RBI, five runs scored, and three walks in seven rehab games. Right-hander Tim Pederson pitched two scoreless innings, in which he gave up a hit. Pederson has not allowed more than two hits in any of his 39 appearances this season. Outfielder Rymer Liriano went 1-for-3 with a home run (a solo shot in the fourth inning), an RBI, run scored, and a walk.

BINGHAMTON RUMBLE PONIES (Double-A): 63-70 overall, 28-41 in the second half, sixth place, 11 1/2 games back in Eastern League Eastern division. They were swept in their doubleheader against Portland, losing the first game, 5-3, and the second game, 1-0. Infielder Andres Gimemez went 1-4 with two RBI, which came on a two-run single in the seventh inning of game one. Right-handed pitcher Joseph Shaw three 2 1/3 innings of relief in the first game, allowing just a hit and a walk, with two strikeouts. Left-handed pitcher Blake Taylor (2 1/3 innings, BB, 3 K) and Right-hander Adonis Uceta (2 IP, 4 K) combined for seven strikeouts in their 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in the second game.

ST. LUCIE METS (Single-A): 67-65 overall, 35-31 in second half; 4th place, 10 1/2 games back in the Florida State League South division. They are currently on a 13-game losing streak after losing to Daytona, 6-5. All their runs came in a five-run fifth inning. Outfielder Zach Ashford went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI, tying a season-high with four hits. It was his first four-hit game with St. Lucie, and he is hitting .500 (5-10) in three games there. Infielder Manny Rodriguez went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs with a double in the fifth inning.

COLUMBIA FIREFLIES (Single-A): 52-78 overall, 28-36 in second half, 5th place, 7.0 games back, South Atlantic League Southern division. Columbia scored three unanswered runs in their 3-2 victory over Hickory. Outfielder Walter Rasquin belted the game-winning solo home run in the seventh inning, and it was his third dinger of the year. Right-hander Alec Kisena did not factor into the decision, but had his second quality start of the season, as he went 6 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks, with six strikeouts. The Fireflies got 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief from right-hander Justin Lasko (1/3 IP, BB, K), Willy Taveras (1.0 IP, H), and Allan Winans (1.0 IP, 2 K).

BROOKLYN CYCLONES (Short-Season A): 39-30, tied for second place, 1 game back in New York-Penn League's McNamara division. The Cyclones have won seven of their last ten games, but lost to Vermont, 3-2, in 10 innings. Designated hitter Gavin Garay (3-4, double, RBI) tied a season-high with three hits. Infielder Willmer Reyes went 2-4 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to six games. He is batting .429 (9-21) with five RBI and five runs scored in that span.
