In the FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll for Week 8 of the 2023 College Football season, the top four schools are Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, and Florida State, with the only change from the prior week being OSU and FSU flipping spots for the second straight week.
Georgia picked up 29 of the 56 first-place votes to remain No. 1 for the 18th consecutive week after they idle this weekend. Their streak began over a year ago, October 9, 2022, and an SEC team has now been ranked No. 1 for 50 straight weeks dating back to September 29, 2019.
Michigan remained in the No. 2 spot after they shutout rival Michigan State, 49-0, while Ohio State moved up to No. 3 after they beat Big Ten rival Penn State, 20-12. With the loss, Penn State (6-1) fell three spots to No. 10.
Alabama came back to beat Tennessee, 34-20, at home, and that moved them up two spots to No. 9.
Oklahoma outlasted UCF, 31-29 to remain in the sixth spot , and that is their 97th all-time appearance in the Super 16 poll, which is now fourth-best among all teams in the nation.
Two schools normally associated with basketball - North Carolina and Duke - who were No. 10 and 15, respectively, in the poll last week, dropped out after losses in Week 8. North Carolina lost at home to Virginia, 31-27, while Duke fell, 38-20, at No. 4 Florida State.
New entrants in this week's poll include LSU, who returns to it in as No. 15 after beating Army, 62-0, and Missouri makes its season debut at No. 16 after they they won on the road at Kentucky, 38-21.
