The Yankees open their season this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. when they are in Houston to take on their rivals, the Astros, in a four-game series.
There were a lot of roster moves on Thursday morning, starting with their ace, Gerrit Cole, being placed on the 60-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
The Yankees placed their projected leadoff hitter, third baseman DJ LeMahieu, on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to March 25) with a right foot contusion.
Infielder Oswald Peraza was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 3/25) with a right shoulder strain. Right-handed pitcher Tommy Kahnle was placed on the 15-day IL (retroactive to 3/25) with right shoulder inflammation. RHP McKinley Moore is on the 15-day IL (retroactive to 3/25) with right knee bursitis.
Right-handed pitcher Luis Gil, who is slated to be their fifth starter, was recalled from Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre.
Infielder Jon Berti, who was acquired from the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, will be wearing number 19, and he was added to the active roster.
Right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi, who had a sensational spring training, was signed to a Major League contract and selected him to the active roster.
