From now until the end of the season, we will be tracking the progress of the Yankees with their 1998 World Championship team that won 114 games in the regular season.

2018: 40-18
Wednesday night: Yankees 3, Toronto 0 (13 innings)
This game was a classic old-time pitchers' duel, as Sonny Gray of the Yankees and Sam Gaviglio of Toronto kept the game scoreless until very late.
Gray had arguably his best start of the season, as he went eight innings, allowing just two hits and a pair of walks, while notching eight strikeouts. Gaviglio went seven innings, allowing three hits and three walks, while striking out four.
The Yankees broke the scoreless tie in the top of the 13th inning when Aaron Judge hit a two-run home run, followed by a solo shot for Giancarlo Stanton.
It was Judge's 17th homer of the season, and the 14th for Stanton.
David Robertson pitched a scoreless 12th inning to earn the win and improve to 4-2, while Aroldis Chapman earned his 15th save of the season.

Tuesday, June 9, 1998: Yankees 11, Montreal 1
Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez threw a complete game to earn his second win in as many starts to begin his Yankees career. He allowed just one run on four hits and a walk, with nine strikeouts.
The Yankees got on the board in the second inning when Bernie Williams led off the frame with a solo home run and Tino Martinez hit a two-run shot later on to make it 3-0. Tino got another RBI on a groundout in the third to make it 4-0.
Scott Brosius led off the fourth with a homer, followed by a Luis Sojo double to make it 6-0.
The Yankees blew it open in the sixth when Paul O'Neill got a two-run single, followed by a Bernie Williams RBI double, and Shane Spencer scoring on an error to make it 10-0.
Where they stand: The 2018 Yankees (40-18) remain five games off the pace of the 1998 team, which was 45-13 through 58 games.
