Yankees 1998 Tracker: Game 59

Friday night: Yankees 4, Mets 1

Brett Gardner's two-run home run in the eighth inning off Mets starter Jacob deGrom was the difference in this one, as the Yankees won it 4-1 at Citi Field.
Brandon Nimmo led the game off with a home run for the Mets, and it stayed that way until the sixth.
Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka reached on an error in the top of the sixth, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge to tie the game at 1. When he came up lame afterward due to soreness in both hamstrings, he was lifted from the game.
The Gardner home run made it 3-1, and Giancarlo Stanton got a homer of his own, a solo shot, in the ninth to make it 4-1.
Chad Green pitched a scoreless seventh inning and earned the win to improve to 4-1 on the season, and Aroldis Chapman earned his 16th save of the season.

June 10, 1998: Yankees 6, Montreal Expos 2
Tino Martinez hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to get the Yankees on the board against Montreal's Dustin Hermanson.
Montreal got one of them back in the bottom of the third when Jose Vidro hit an RBI double off Yankee starter Hideki Irabu.
In the fourth, Jorge Posada had an RBI single, followed by a run scoring on an error on a hit by Irabu to make it 4-1 Yankees.
In the sixth, Scott Brosius got an RBI single, and Martinez got a sacrifice fly in the seventh to make it 6-1.
Irabu went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks, with five strikeouts, to earn the win and improve to 6-1 on the season.

Where they stand: The 2018 Yankees (41-18) remain five games off the pace of the 1998 team, which was 46-13 through 59 games.
