Yankees starter Domingo German gave up three runs in the bottom of the first, but he battled back to go six innings and keep the Yankees in the game.
Just as they did on Friday night, the Yankees relied on the long ball, as Gleyber Torres hit a solo home run in the third, followed by a Miguel Andujar two-run shot in the sixth to tie it at three, and Aaron Judge winning it with a solo shot in the eighth.
David Robertson pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the win and improve to 5-2 on the season, and Aroldis Chapman worked out of trouble in the ninth to earn his 17th save of the season.
1998: 46-14
June 11, 1998: Montreal Expos 7, Yankees 5
The Yankees jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning of this one, as Scott Brosius and Joe Girardi each had two-run singles against Montreal starter Carl Pavano.
Tino Martinez had a solo shot against Marc Valdes in the sixth to make it 5-0 Yankees.
Montreal rallied against Yankee starter Andy Pettitte in the seventh, starting with an RBI double from Rondell White.
The Yankees turned to Mike Stanton, who gave up a sacrifice fly to Jose Vidro to make it 5-2.
With Jeff Nelson in, Brad Fullmer got a two-run double to cut the Yankees' lead to 5-4, and then Vladimir Guerrero got the big blow against Darren Holmes, when he laced a three-run double, before getting thrown out to third base to end the inning, to make it 7-5 Montreal.
Ugueth Urbina pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 15th save of the season. Urbina went on to close for Boston in 2001 and 2002, Texas, Florida, Detroit, and Philadelphia. He was a member of the Florida Marlins' World Championship team in 2003.
Carl Pavano was also on the 2003 Marlins, and he signed with the Yankees as a free agent ahead of the 2005 season. He had issues staying healthy, and in his four years as a Yankee, he compiled a record of 9-8 with just 26 starts. He went to Cleveland in 2009, and then went to Minnesota during that season, and he stayed with the Twins until 2012. His best season in Minnesota was 2010, when he went 17-11.
Where they stand: The 2018 Yankees (42-18) gained a game on the 1998 team with their win tonight and the 1998 team's loss in their 60th game, which dropped their record to 46-14.
