On Sunday, Mustapha Heron and LJ Figueroa led St. John’s to a comeback victory over No. 13/13 Villanova, and on Monday, Heron has been named the Big East Player of the Week and Figueroa earned a spot on the league’s weekly honor roll.

Heron scored a season-high 28 points in their win over Butler in overtime last Tuesday at Carnesecca Arena, as he made eight of his 15 shot attempts, including a 2-for-4 effort from three, to help St. John’s hold off a furious Butler push. In the extra period, Heron went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line to help the Red Storm seal the victory.
On Sunday, he put up 19 points, including 14 in the second half, against Villanova. He shot 5-for-9 from the floor and 2-for-4 from behind the arc, along with going 7-8 from the free throw line, including 6-for-6 in the final 1:24 of the game.
Heron averaged 23.5 points in the two victories, as he shot 54.2 percent from the floor (13-of-24), 50 percent from three (4-of-8) and 85 percent from the charity stripe (17-of-20) while averaging 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per outing.
Figueroa led St. John's with 22 points, with 16 coming in the second half, against Villanova on Sunday, a signature win they needed to nearly make their NCAA Tournament complete. He also pulled down 12 boards for his team-leading fifth double-double of the season while registering four steals for the second straight outing.
On Tuesday against Butler, Figueora filled out the stat line with seven points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
The Red Storm will hit the road this week for a Wednesday night matchup at Providence before welcoming Seton Hall to Madison Square Garden for an 8 p.m. tip of Saturday.
