Mets Wild Card Series Roster

The Mets announced their Wild Card Series roster ahead of Game 1 with the San Diego Padres on Friday night at Citi Field.

The biggest takeaway looking at this is that Starling Marte, the Mets right fielder who has been out with a broken finger since he got hit by a pitch in Pittsburgh on September 6, is on the roster for this three-game series.

Mets Manager Buck Showalter announced in his pregame press conference that Marte will be batting sixth on Friday night.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez, the Mets top prospect who came up a week ago, is on the roster as a third catcher. Pitchers Mychal Givens and Tylor Megill, who battled through injuries in the final days of the regular season, are also on the roster, as is David Peterson, who served most of the year as a starter but performed well enough out of the bullpen the final few weeks to earn his spot. 

Also on the roster is Darin Ruf, the slugger whom they acquired at the trade deadline, but who has hit just .152, with a .216 on-base percentage (OBP) with 0 home runs and 7 RBI in 28 games with the Mets. He began the season with the San Francisco Giants, and in 90 games, he hit .216, with a .328 OBP, and 11 home runs and 38 RBI. His only playoff experience was last season, with the Giants, and he played in three games, and hit 1-for-11, with the one hit being a home run, and two RBI.
