Governor Andrew M. Cuomo met with WWII veteran Sidney Walton, 99, at the State Capitol and presented him with the Governor's Medal for Public Service on Friday, May 18.

Mr. Walton, a New York native, is currently on a "No Regrets Tour" of the United States that aims to give anyone hoping to meet a WWII veteran the opportunity to do so.

"Mr. Walton is a New Yorker, born in Manhattan,"the Governor said. "Summered in the Catskills. So, once a New Yorker, always a New Yorker."

Walton plans to meet the governors of all 50 states and complete his tour at the White House on his 100th birthday in February.

It's called the No Regrets Tour because Sidney regrets that he did not meet the last surviving Civil War veterans in New York's Central Park in 1941, the year he joined the Army. To make up for that regret he is now touring the U.S. meeting people of all ages who have never had a chance to meet an actual WWII veteran.

The "No Regrets Tour" of all states and capitals was announced at a press conference on March 21 at the WWII Museum in New Orleans, and will end at the White House on Sidney's 100th birthday, February 11, 2019.

Walton gained national recognition when he was interviewed on Fox and Friends on March 27, and he then met with former presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush.

The first meeting Walton had with a governor came on April 24 with Rhode Island's Gina Raimondo in Providence, RI, and two days later, he was promoted to Honorary Brigadier General of the RI Militia.

On April 30, Walton met with Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker in Boston, MA, and on May 2, he was honored at Fenway Park on the Jumbotron

A couple days later, he met with Maine Gov. Paul LePage in Augusta, ME, and had a Luncheon with First Lady Ann LePage.

Sidney made his way to Connecticut for a meeting with Gov. Dannel Malloy at his office in Hartford, CT.

This past Saturday, he was the VIP guest speaker at the Regional Crossfit Games.
