The Red Bulls fell to the Philadelphia Union, 2-1 on Saturday night in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa.
Philadelphia got two goals in nine minutes to earn the win, as Haris Medunjanin scored in the 52nd minute, followed by Cory Burke connecting in the 61st.
Alejandro Bedoya assisted on both Union goals.
Bradley Wright-Phillips looked to rally the Red Bulls back as he came off the bench in the 60th minute and scored in the 77th.
Wright-Phillips tallied his fifth career Open Cup goal and raised his all competitions total to 114.
BWP scored just his third career goal as a substitute and first since 2013.
Kaku recorded his first career Open Cup assist as he came back from international duty with the Paraguay National team.
Kaku has tallied a point in three different major competitions since joining the Red Bulls.
Red Bulls Captain and goalkeeper Luis Robles tallied five saves in his first Open Cup match since June 15, 2016.
The Red Bulls completed their fifth game in 15 days. New York sent out their fifth different starting XI and recorded 2-2-1 mark during that span.
The Red Bulls return to MLS play when they welcome FC Dallas to Red Bull Arena on Saturday, June 23 at 6 p.m.
