Yankees 1998 Tracker: Game 90




From now until the end of the season, we will be tracking the progress of the Yankees with their 1998 World Championship team, which won 114 games in the regular season.

Through 90 Games:


2018: 59-31
Tuesday night: Baltimore 6, Yankees 5

Baltimore came back from a 5-3 deficit as Manny Machado hit a two-run home run to tie it in the seventh, and Jonathan Schoop got a game-winning single in the ninth.
Greg Bird had a three-run homer for the Yankees in the fifth inning.
Masahiro Tanaka had a nice outing in his first start since June 8, as he went 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks, with five strikeouts.

1998: 67-23
July 17, 1998: Blue Jays 9, Yankees 6

The game was tied at 1 until the seventh inning when Toronto rallied, as Alex Gonzalez had an RBI double, followed by a grand slam for Sean Green that made it 6-1.
In the eighth, Paul O'Neill and Jorge Posada each had RBI singles to make it 6-3.
The Jays put the game away in the bottom of the eighth when Tony Fernandez haad a two-run double and he scored on a Shannon Stewart RBI single that made it 9-3.
Roger Clemens got the win for Toronto, as he went seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks, with 10 strikeouts, to improve to 11-6.
Ramiro Mendoza got the start for the Yankees, as he went 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk, with five strikeouts. 
Darren Holmes took the loss, as he allowed two runs and two hits, with a K in 1/3 of an inning, while Mike Stanton gave up six runs on five hits and two walks, with two K's, in an inning.

Where they stand: The 2018 Yankees (59-31) remain eight games off the pace of the 1998 team, which was 67-23 through 90 games.
