On Wednesday morning, ahead of their game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Yankees, in conjunction with the NYC Board of Education, hosted Bronx Education All Star Day.
10,000 students, from grades 5-8, and teachers from Bronx-based schools (Districts 7-12) were on hand at Yankee Stadium to be recognized for their achievements and commitment to leadership, academics, community service, and teamwork.
Yankees Manager Aaron Boone was among the speakers at the event, which was hosted by Yankees Spanish-language radio announcer, Rickie Ricardo.
"It's important for us to honor and pay respect, and, hopefully, offer some encouragement to kids in the community that are doing really great things," Boone said in his pregame press conference. "That's something that's very important to us as an organization, and I'm glad I was able to play a small part in the festivities.
"It's a credit to all those kids that are doing a lot of special things in school and in their communities."
