Yankees 3B Andujar Elects To Have Surgery

Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar has elected to have right shoulder labrum repair surgery, and he is not expected to return this season.

The surgery will be performed on Monday by Yankees team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad.
Yankees Manager Aaron Boone said of Andujar's decision after their win over Baltimore on Wednesday night, "Miggy's beloved in that room and, obviously, really important to us between the lines and just who he is, so hopefully, this is a really good step for him, starting the healing process, so look forward to him getting it done and then on his way back, and make a full recovery, so hurt for him a little bit, but know that this is just the beginning of the road back.

This comes two days after he went back on the 10-day injured list with a right labrum tear a little more than a week after he returned from a lengthy IL stint.

Andujar was originally placed on the injured list on April 1, and at that time, the Yankees preached caution when it came to his rehab, but that surgery was an option.

When he returned on May 4, that shoulder was still not 100 percent, but he could hit close to normal. 

With so many injuries, the chance to restore last year's American League Rookie of the Year runner-up was too enticing.

Primarily used as a designated hitter, Andujar has been 3-for-34 in nine games since his return. Overall this season, he is hitting .128 (6-47) with no home runs and 1 RBI in 12 games (he played the opening weekend against Baltimore, and hurt himself in their game on March 31).
