Major Progress on New Stadium For Oakland A's

A term sheet between the Oakland Athletics and the Port of Oakland outlining terms for the possible development by the A’s of approximately 50 acres of Port property at Howard Terminal was approved by The Board of Port Commissioners with a 7-0 vote 7-0. 

The vote is the culmination of a year of negotiations between the Port and A’s and is an important preliminary step in the process of public and regulatory reviews and real estate negotiations.

“We are grateful to the Board of Port Commissioners,” said Oakland A’s President Dave Kaval. “In November, we announced our vision to build a waterfront ballpark and provide a baseball experience for our fans like no other. However, this project is bigger than baseball. It will deliver real economic, civic, and cultural benefits, including job creation and training opportunities; an inclusive approach to economic and community development; and new civic, cultural, and recreational amenities. Today’s vote is an important step in the process and we look forward to continuing to work with the Port, the City of Oakland, and the greater community.”

The A’s unveiled their vision in November 2018 for a privately financed waterfront ballpark at Howard Terminal. The ballpark will anchor a new, vibrant, waterfront district that will feature housing, including affordable housing, restaurants, retail, hotel, business space, and public gathering spaces.

The City is currently conducting the project’s environmental review, studying the potential impacts of a ballpark surrounded by mixed use development and public access amenities. No final actions or binding agreements will be reached until after an Environmental Impact Report is completed and the A’s secure regulatory and land use approvals from the City of Oakland, the Port and a variety of state and regional authorities.
