The Mets, on Friday afternoon, announced a new bag policy at Citi Field to enhance ballpark safety.

As part of the new bag policy, backpacks will no longer be allowed into Citi Field. Items still acceptable for entry into the ballpark include purses, diaper, tote, drawstring and messenger style bags along with small soft-sided coolers, provided that the item does not exceed 16" x 16” x 8".

“Fan safety continues to be our top priority as well as constantly assessing how we can provide a convenient ballpark experience for all our fans,” said Senior Vice President, Ballpark Operations & Venue Services Mike Landeen. “We want to relay this new policy well in advance of implementation to maintain our first-class experience while also allowing fans to make the necessary adjustments.”

The policy will go into effect on Monday, May 20 when the Mets begin a 7-game homestand vs. the Washington Nationals and Detroit Tigers.
